How to Produce and Release Video Content

Now that you understand why video content is so important, we can talk about how to produce some video content! Don’t worry….you don’t need to buy an expensive camera, computer or editing software, nor hire a film crew. Those tools will help you increase video quality when you’re ready later. Right now, we’ll show you how to create and release videos using what you already have!

Do you have a phone? Great! Already have a camera? Even better. Let’s talk about how to create videos…

     1. Plan the Video: Think about what you want to say or show. Is it a video explaining your product? Maybe it’s showing the features of a product without words? Or you want to let your customers know about a sale? Whatever it is, write it down. Pick a location that is well-lit, either inside or outside of your business, and aesthetically pleasing to portray your product, business and brand well.

     2. Shoot the Video: If you’re using your phone, make sure you’re shooting in landscape mode (hold your phone horizontal, like in the image below). Then, point and shoot the content you planned. If you’re shooting a selfie video with your phone, you still need to keep it in landscape mode!

     3. Edit the Video: Edit…such a scary word. Don’t fret! It’s easier than you think. If you’re using an Android phone, download an app like Filmora Go, Adobe Premiere Clip or VivaVideo. If you’re using an iPhone, download iMovie. Simply open the app you want to use, choose the clip you just shot and trim it as necessary! You can also cut it into separate sections. If you used a camera to shoot the video, just pop the SD card into your computer. If you’re using a Windows computer, use Windows Movie Maker to edit your video. Using a Mac? Open up iMovie. Open the program/application you want to use, then open the folder from your SD card. Just click and drag the clip you shot into your editing program. Trim or cut it however feels right, then export your movie!

     4. Release (Upload) the Video: You planned, shot and edited your video. Awesome. Now, it’s time to show your audience. Follow the steps below for each social media channel where you want to upload your video:

         Facebook:
        Using a phone: Open your Facebook app. Tap the text box that says, “What’s on your mind?” Select “Photo/Video.” Upload your clip from your phone, type the caption you want to pair with your video and click “Share.

Using a computer: Go to your Facebook homepage. Find the file on your computer. Click and drag the file into the box you usually type your status update (“What’s on your mind?”). Then, type the message/caption you want to pair with your video and click “Publish” (This process applies for both personal accounts and pages).

        Instagram:
        Open the Instagram app on your phone. Tap the “+” icon on the bottom-center of your screen. Select your edited clip, type the message you want to pair with your video and select a cover photo. Hit “Share” when you’re finished to upload your video.

         Youtube:
         Go to your Youtube account. Click the arrow pointing up (top right of your window) to select your clip for upload. Select the edited video file, type your description, title your video and hit “Publish” when finished.
